Bring the Funny... "Under the Stars" is a huge success!

by Rukiya Michele -- August 2014

More than 100 community members attended the first “Bring the Funny” FREE customer appreciation event on Saturday, 9 August 2014. The evening event included FREE raffle giveaways, music by DJ Steezilla, local vendors and a comedy show. To beat the heat, patrons were treated to FREE margaritas and beer. Houston food truck favorites Soul Cat Cuisine and Abdel’s BBQ were on site to provide delicious food, while Texas Sunshine Tea, Carey’s Frozen Delights, Popcorn Kitchen and The Baker’s Man provided yummy treats. The event was a special success for The Baker’s Man as it was the business’ official public launch which resulted in a total sell out of their mini bundt cakes. Sensational Wave Spa was on hand to sell lotions and bath products. Finally, Island Sizzler was on hand to spread the word about the upcoming 4th Annual Caribbean Rum fest on August 16th & 17th.

We would like to thank Ms. Rendean Garrett, the owner of the Midtown Mobile Cuisine Food Truck Park, for allowing us to host our event at her location. We hope this is the first of many successful partnerships.

Bring the Funny... Awards its first "College Book Scholarship"

by Rukiya Michele -- August 2014

“Bring the Funny” is guided by its core values – service, partnership, and scholarship. As former college students we know the importance of obtaining a college education, particularly in 21st century America. However, we also know the exorbitant cost of obtaining such an education. Thus, the partners of “Bring the Funny” set out to ease some of this strain on a student and her family.

On Saturday, 9 August 2014, “Bring the Funny” presented Miss Latricia Pillows with its first “College Book Scholarship”. Latricia will begin her college journey this fall at Texas Women’s University where she will double major in Biology and Elementary Education. She has been accepted into the Living Learning Program which functions as a cohort learning community

and requires community service projects.

Bring the Funny wishes Latricia all the best in her academic endeavors and we look forward to seeing the contributions that she will make to her community!

Bring the Funny... Donates school supplies

by Rukiya Michele -- August 2014

On Saturday, 9 August 2014 “Bring the Funny” donated two fully-loaded backpacks to the St. Andrew’s 4th Annual Community Festival in the Acres Homes neighborhood. Our donation was guided by our values of service, partnership and scholarship. It is our hope that the 5th grade and high school students who received these backpacks will be able to start school off on a good note by having the items that they need for classroom success.

We appreciate the opportunity to make this donation to the St. Andrew’s community and look forward to working with them again in the future.
